A week that began with the raising of Lord Stanley’s silver chalice wrapped up with the reveal of Las Vegas’s golden sweater. And it is quite a sight.
The Vegas Golden Knights unveiled their first-ever alternate uniform this morning. Some of their social media videos focus on the phrase “That’s So Vegas”—and truer words have never been written.
It has a shine and sparkle that’s perfectly suited to the iconic Las Vegas Strip. What’s more, the fabric is as unique as the city itself.
According to the Golden Knights’ press release: “The third jersey is the first all-metallic gold jersey in the history of the National Hockey League, and the first-of-its-kind metallic knit iteration of the adidas ADIZERO authentic jersey.”
Sure, we’ve seen other attempts at yellow or gold jerseys, but nothing quite like this.
In fact, the creation of this special knit material was no small feat, reportedly taking took two years to perfect. That’s a long time to develop a hockey sweater—and it means this must have been in the planning stages almost from the moment the first puck dropped in Vegas.
The technical achievements notwithstanding, the jersey itself may be a little… much… the first time you see it. The Adidas team is always trying to outdo itself but this is really wild with the color—even if the overall design is really a simple color swap of Vegas’s primary jerseys.
Yet I have a hunch this uniform will go down in history as a classic and something only the Golden Knights could ever pull off.

The crest and shoulder patch remain the same. But when you take a step back and look at the full uniform, there is a significant shift in the color palette when compared to the primary uniforms.
It may take a minute to notice since the gold really distracts the eye!
Check out those grey pants. In fact, outside of the logos, you won’t find any black in this uniform. It’s a little refreshing at a time in NHL history when so many black third jerseys have popped upwinnipeg jets custom jerseys zara. Arizona, Boston, Carolina, Philly, San Jose, and Tampa Bay have all added black in recent years. And Ottawa is about to switch to a black home sweater. That’ll become official next week.
Another fun fact is that the white gloves typically worn with the road uniform will be paired with this alternate sweater, which will be used for home games. They also managed to reproduce the gold-fleck fabric for use in the socks, so even those will match. No gold helmet, though. For now they’re sticking with grey.
